Wandersalon: Peggy Buth

Dortmunder U | Kino im U | 06/06/2018 , 18:00-19:30 h

On June 6, 2018, the Berlin-based artist Peggy Buth will be our guest for a video lecture at the Dortmunder U. Together with Urbane Künste Ruhr, HMKV presents the fourth edition of the Wandersalon - an event format in which artists present their work methods and projects. From 1 -30 June, HMKV presents, in parallel, Peggy Buth's work "Demolition Flats" (2014) as the HMKV Video of the Month.

The video work explores the social fabric of a city and a changing understanding of urban planning. Peggy Buth conducts intensive research on site for her work, which is produced in various media such as photography, video and assemblage. The artist often reveals a complex mixture of social structures, economic strategies and political decisions. In her video work, for example in "People Like Us" (2017), she explores historical connections and interdependencies, which are essentially based on the corporate culture of Friedrich Krupp AG and which have shaped the social conditions in the Ruhr area in various forms.

Peggy Buth was born in Berlin in 1971 and studied photography and fine arts at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts. She was a Fellow of the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht and has been a professor of media art at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig since the winter semester 2016/2017. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, including a.o. the Exhibition Research Center, John Moores University, Liverpool (UK); Folkwang Museum Essen (DE); Museum Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin (DE); Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart (DE); Camera Austria, Kunsthaus Graz, (AT); CAC, Vilnius (LT); Weltkulturen Museum, Frankfurt am Main (DE); K21, Dusseldorf (DE); Bétonsalon, Paris (FR); Brussels Biennial (BE).
