Family Sunday

HMKV at the Dortmunder U | Level 3

Every first Sunday of the month, a colourful, free programme for the whole family takes place throughout the Dortmunder U. During the conversion phase, HMKV shows films by young people from the summer holiday project Fantasy Creatures between Nature and Technology.

Nine young people aged 10-14 were able to direct their own films. Under the guidance of artists and filmmakers Lioba Schmidt and Jana Nestler, the group explored the theme of technology and nature. The occasion was the exhibition We grow, grow and grow, we're gonna be alright and this is our show by Jana Kerima Stolzer & Lex Rütten (from 11 March to 30 July 2023).

What would plants and technical devices tell us if they could talk? What could nature-technology beings look like? How could nature and technology work together? With these questions in mind, the young people set off in search of exciting stories: They drew and developed characters, wrote scripts and brought their stories to life in their own film. On excursions to Phoenix-West, they explored industrial nature and collected sounds and images from the natural and man-made environment. In the process, they gradually learned about the different areas of a film production and were eventually able to direct, camera, sound and act themselves.

The short films can be seen on two family Sundays in the Dortmunder U: Sunday, 06 August and Sunday, 03 September 2023, at the HMKV. Free entry.
