On the occasion of the exhibition `The Mechanical Corps. On the Trail of Jules Verne´ (11 April to 12 July 2015) HMKV (Hartware MedienKunstVerein) announces its first tweetup on Thursday, 09 April at 7pm (#soundpanzer).
On the Trail of Jules Verne with the soundpanzer
Accompanied by the exhibition curator Christoph Tannert and HMKV’s artistic director Inke Arns attending twitterati have the unique opportunity to follow Jules Verne’s footsteps even before the exhibition opening. `The Mechanical Corps´ is an exhilarating hodgepodge of artefacts from the realms of contemporary art, popular culture and subculture. For `The Mechanical Corps´ curators Peter Lang and Christoph Tannert have gathered a formidable collection of contemporary objects and artworks whose aesthetics hark back to the late nineteenth century. Why are artists fascinated by the aesthetics of old machinery and what kind of connection to Jules Verne exists? These and other questions will be discussed during a tour through the exhibition.
Soundpanzer: machinery, man, music
A very special event will be the encounter with Berlin-based artist Nik Nowak taking place in the underground garage of the Dortmunder U where Nik will be setting up his soundpanzer for the next-day performance. 1.5 tons, 4,000 watt, 13 loudspeakers, 2 crawler tracks – the soundpanzer is an extraordinary art work. Nik Nowak will explain his fascination for the aesthetic of armoured vehicles as well as his passion for sound looking forward to a lively discussion with the participants.
Participants will enjoy a fascinating evening with plenty of acoustic and visual experiences!
