Lecture about the exhibition “Korpys/Löffler”
Dortmunder U | 3rd Floor
On the Use of Photography in the Works of Korpys/Löffler. Lecture by Dr. Sabine Maria Schmidt, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition
Not the image itself but its coming into existence constitutes the decisive momentum for many photographers. During their trips, after intensive research and with always surprising ideas, Korpys/Löffler develop various approaches for their photographic work: using an old Ford Transit as a camera obscura, capturing the radiation in Gorlebenemploying with historical development techniques or asking prison inmates for objects as barter. Similarly, their filmic work is often characterised by a distinctly photographic sensibility. How does artistic photography operate in the context of image production in social media and what can it achieve in light of the pervasiveness of images in contemporary society?
