On Thursday, 26 August, the HMKV presents the second Listening Session in the context of the exhibition Stefan Panhans / Andrea Winkler – The Pow(d)er of I Am Klick Klick Klick Klick and a very very bad bad musical!

26 August 2021, 19:00
with Kirsten Reese

Composer and sound artist Kirsten Reese creates works for electronic media, instruments and installations. Her work focuses on site-specific and performative aspects ("Neglou" for trumpet and immersive underwater sound, Donaueschinger Musiktage 2019) and the use of "found sound" and archival and documentary material. She is interested in different loudspeaker and media constellations and the aura of historic electronic instruments ("Light Green Rituals" for Fairlight CMI synthesizer and ensemble, 2018; "Atmende Kugel/breathing sphere" for six voices and Hermann Scherchen’s rotating loudspeaker sphere, 2017). Another focus lies on compositions, installations and audiowalks for rural and urban landscapes ("Berlin Rosenthaler Platz" audiowalk with singing sirens) and works concerned with soundscape and acoustic ecology.

Next to her own artistic practice, Reese collaborated with Stefan Panhans and Andrea Winkler for the videos / video installations Freeroam À Rebours, Mod#I.1 (2017/2021) and HOSTEL (2018), which are presented in the exhibition and for which she created the soundtracks.

The event begins with the presentation of selected parts of the artist's work and is followed by a discussion together with Inke Arns, curator and HMKV director, as well as the artists of the exhibition, Stefan Panhans and Andrea Winkler.

Kirsten Reese’s works were presented at international festivals and exhibitions, e.g. Donaueschinger Musiktage (2019/2013/2006), Wien modern (2017), Heroines of Sound (2015), Kunstfest Weimar (2015), Sound Art, ZKM Karlsruhe (2012). She received numerous grants and residencies (Cité des Arts Paris 2006, Villa Aurora Los Angeles 2009). Since 2005 Kirsten Reese teaches electroacoustic composition at the University of the Arts Berlin.
