Synopsis: Thanks to the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta, Canada is today the largest oil supplier to the USA. A trillion-dollar industry is invested in the degradation of these oil sands, producing a major environmental problem. For one barrel of oil up to four barrels of fresh water are used and then dumped, contaminated, into huge mountain ponds. The destruction of the local ecosystem is just one of many consequences.

Synopsis: Drawing on Internet images related to the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, director Lech Kowalski deconstructs Robert Flaherty’s classic 1948 documentary "Louisiana Story" (a film originally commissioned by Standard Oil). "It‘s more of a graffitti-sort of defacing a previous film, writing on it and fucking it up in the context of history."

When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND.

The energy company grounded its business on accounting fraud, causing an insolvency with 20.000 people losing their jobs. Until the very last moment, the responsible managers shamelessly enriched themselves at the expenses of their own employees, crushing 2 billion dollars of pension funds. The film Enron – The Smartest Guys in the Room reconstructs the details of the biggest company scandal in the economic history of the US.
