Can't Get You Out of My Head

26. June 2021 - 08. August 2021 An Exhibition in seven Dortmund clubs

Can't Get You Out of My Head is a decentralized exhibition by HMKV in Dortmund clubs. Its aim is to make these spaces – closed for the foreseeable future due to the current Corona pandemic – visible and accessible as cultural venues. To this end, the project initiators are launching a partnership with the Dortmund Club and Concert Culture Interest Group. Spatial installations from the field of media art will be presented in seven Dortmund locations/clubs. On display will be existing works as well as new productions by local, regional and international artists, many of them directly related to the theme of club culture, such as Jeremy Deller's new project on the history of acid house Everybody in the Place: An Incomplete History of Britain 1984-1992 (2018) or Arthur Jafa's APEX (2013). In particular, by enabling new productions, we aim to strengthen artistic creation in the city and the region in a time marked by uncertainty, deprivation and a lack of commissions and presentation opportunities.

We will see the Dortmund clubs with new eyes.

The working title of the exhibition refers to the song "Can't Get You Out of My Head" by Kylie Minogue (2001) as well as to the new film of the same name by Adam Curtis (2021).

The exhibition Can't Get You Out Of My Head is part of CLUB, KUNST & KULTUR – a cooperation between UZWEI and HMKV – with the kind support of IG Dortmunder Club- und Konzertkultur. Can't Get You Out of My Head runs concurrently with the UZWEI exhibition on and with actors from Dortmund's club culture (hello again). Both exhibitions can be seen parallel to Studio 54 - Night Magic at Dortmunder U.
