Solar Radio Station

20. May 2006 - 16. July 2006 PHOENIX Halle

In this (live) installation one can listen to the sounds of the universe originating from various sources. They have been collected by the artists’ group radioqualia (Honor Hager, Adam Hyde) in cooperation with the Riga media culture center RIXC. The recordings are coming from various radio telescopes. Additionally, during two days, there will be live feeds from the VIRAC radio astronomy telescope in Irbene (Latvia) which will be acoustically re-worked and interpreted live by the experimental musicians Clausthome (Latvia). VIRAC is the largest radio telescope worldwide (32 meters in diameter) accessible for civilian use – thanks to RIXC’s continued efforts.

Solar Radio Station is collaboration between the artists of RIXC and r a d i o q u a l i a, Clausthome musicians and VIRAC - Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center scientists.

The collaborative set-up consisting of 3 parts:

Real-time observations will be powered and sent to internet by project team in Irbene:

Dmitry Bezrukov/VIRAC,
Davis Bojars, Signe Pucena, Agnese Rucina / RIXC.
