Opening of ‘Genossin Sonne (Comrade Sun)’ on 12 September 2025

On Friday, 12 September 2025, at 19:00., the HMKV invites you to the opening of the international group exhibition Comrade Sun (13 September 2025 – 18 January 2026). What makes this exhibition special is that it will be presented on two levels of the Dortmunder U. In addition to the exhibition hall on level 3, the HMKV will also use the special exhibition area on level 6 – the HMKV has never been closer to the sun.

The exhibition explores the question of whether the sun influences what happens on Earth. Does it play a role in revolutions or make certain events more likely? The show was curated by HMKV director Dr Inke Arns together with Andrea Popelka. Around 30 works by 18 internationally renowned artists will be on display, including Katharina Sieverding, Agnieszka Polska, Otto Piene, The Otolith Group, Anton Vidokle and Kerstin Brätsch.

The opening will take place on Friday, 12 September 2025, on Level 6 of the Dortmunder U. Doors open at 18:30, and at 19:00, curators Inke Arns and Andrea Popelka, Mathias Wittmann (Commercial Director of HMKV) and Jörg Stüdemann (City Director of Dortmund) will welcome guests. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to visit the exhibition until 23:00. A bar and a DJ set by Orson will provide the perfect atmosphere.
