In this book club, we will read and discuss literature in connection with the current exhibition Comrade Sun (13 September 2025 – 18 January 2026).
The essayistic group exhibition Comrade Sun explores artistic works and theories that link the cosmos—especially the sun, the source of all life on Earth—with social and political movements.
In a relaxed atmosphere, we will share ideas and read excerpts from selected texts together, ranging from poetry and non-fiction to literary classics. The discussions will continue during a guided tour of the exhibition.
The reading assignment is 10 to 15 pages per session.

At our last meeting, we read excerpts from Tommaso Campanella’s classic The City of the Sun, one of the earliest works of utopian literature. Written as a dialogue between a grand master and a captain, Campanella outlines his vision of an ideal city. Governed by a priest-king called “Sun,” this city is founded on knowledge, virtue, and community spirit—standing in contrast to the political realities of his time.
*The reading excerpts will be announced after registration and can also be sent by email upon request. All works discussed in this program are available for purchase through our partner Transfer. Bücher und Medien or in our bookshop.
